  • Cross Street Music Hall 16-22 Cross Street Brunswick East, VIC, 3057 Australia (map)

Kicking off a monthly residency at Brunswick East's beloved Cross St Music Hall, Shrishti marks 238 years since the beginning of the colonial invasion of "Australia".

Invasion Day: a day of mourning - but also an occasion to celebrate the compelling new creative work that First Nations musicians continue to produce.

Featuring the music of Todd J. Bennett (Wiradjuri), Brenda Gifford (Yuin) and Alec Hunter (Métis, North America).

Todd J. Bennett | electronics
Aditya Ryan Bhat | percussion/electronics

Shrishti acknowledges the Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung people of the Eastern Kulin Nation on whose lands we live, make, and share music. Sovereignty was never ceded; it always was and always will be Aboriginal land. As a collective we are committed to advancing anticolonial and antiracist struggles through the medium of experimental music, embracing improvised, notated, and electronic approaches to music-making.  RE I̶N̶ VASION DAY!!! will be presented in a casual format of three sets of music with a short break in-between each one.

50% of the earnings from this show will go to Djirra, "a place where culture is shared and celebrated, and where practical support is available to all Aboriginal women and particularly to Aboriginal people who are currently experiencing family violence or have in the past".
